Tourist Monuments
The Hassan II Mosque
The Hassan 2 Mosque is a mosque located in Casablanca which is the pride of all Moroccans, especially the inhabitants of Casablanca.
A part above the sea, raised like a throne, this monument is of a surface of nine hectares. It includes a prayer room, an ablutions room, baths, a Koranic school, a library and even a museum.
Built under the reign of His Majesty King Hassan 2, it took 7 years of work before it was completed. The late Hassan 2 gave birth to a masterpiece that ranks 6th on the list of the largest mosques in the world.
It is also called the people’s mosque because, at the time of its construction, His Majesty King Hassan 2 asked Moroccans for donations. Everyone participated with a big heart, which makes the mosque the property of all Moroccans.
La Corniche
Casablanca is a modern city located on the seafront and has everything to please. The corniche boulevard, which stretches for several kilometers, is a long and very pleasant avenue along which you can stroll or jog from the lighthouse to the end of the pier, enjoying a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean.
The offer is very varied: cafes, restaurants, ice cream parlors, luxury hotels, playgrounds, leisure centers (Sindibad), shows, discos, cinemas, all at affordable prices. Taking the Boulevard du Lido, you will reach the neighborhood of Anfa, a real Beverly Hills of the House with magnificent villas of very different architectures. A must-see for tourists who come to enjoy the sea air and stroll along the beach…
Mohammed V Square
Mohammed V Square is the administrative center of Casablanca. The modern architecture of the white city around Mohammed V Square is the most perfect reflection of this. Built in 1920, the square brings together several striking monuments. Starting with Marshal Lyautey’s buildings built after the First World War: the French consulate, the post office and bank, the courthouse and the prefecture.
The square has been redesigned to be in harmony with the grand theater project, offering a central musical fountain with a subway parking lot and a mineral square.
Ancient Medina
The Medina of Casablanca is the oldest part of the metropolis. Destroyed by an earthquake in 1755, it is quite recent compared to the medinas of other imperial cities and is distinguished by its architecture that mixes Arab-Moorish and colonial styles. It is accessed through the famous “Bab Marrakech”, one of the seven gates of the medina. It houses a bustling market with an assortment of leather goods and clothing. For the past few years, the medina has been home to an African market nicknamed “Little Dakar”, offering consumer goods from sub-Saharan countries.
Outside the ramparts, you will find a succession of bazaars and stores selling handicrafts and souvenirs to take away in the alley leading to the Casa-Port train station. Not far from the port, a new shopping center “Marina Shopping” has just opened.
