Discover the palm groves of Morocco
The date palm is a perennial plant that is mentioned in several verses of the Qur’an, such as the verse of Surat Al-Baker: ‘Do any of you want an orchard of dates and vines under the flowing stream?’ Where does each type of fruit grow? This “desert plant” has been cultivated in Morocco since ancient times, due to its ability to adapt to hot climates. Dates are very popular fruits of the date tree, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, and are the source of livelihood for most residents of the oasis. It is estimated that the income of one million people comes, at a rate of 40-60%, from date products. In addition, the shade of the trees creates a buffer zone where some staple crops (cereals, henna, alfalfa, etc.) grow.
