Day 1: Casablanca - Rabat
On the first day of Morocco trip itinerary 8 days, our professional guide will welcome you with open arms at the airport. After a visit to the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, the next destination will be the imperial city of Rabat, the current capital of the kingdom. In Rabat, we will visit the emblem of the city, the Hassan Tower. It is a mosque with many columns surrounding it. In order to get to know in depth the history of the city, we will have to visit an interesting ancient Kasbah at the mouth of the Bou Regreg river that separates Rabat from Salé.
The Kasbah of Oudaya was one of the first defensive military fortifications built in the city during the Almohad dynasty. During the time of the Alaouites, the Kasbah witnessed several changes and reforms. The site has known a diverse and distinguished history, which is especially evident in the buildings that make up the Kasbah of the Oudayas, its Almohad wall and its archaeological gate (the Great Gate) that are considered symbols of Almohad architecture, in addition to its mosque known as the ancient mosque. After a visit to the city of Rabat, our team will be ready to pick you up and drive you to your accommodation for the night.
Day 2: Rabat - Meknes - Fez
After a delicious breakfast in the capital, we will leave the city and head towards the Roman ruins of Volubilis. Not far from the city of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, Volubilis is one of the best preserved Roman ruins in Morocco. The city of Volubilis is characterized by containing many natural terrains such as fertile lands, water sources and natural resources, and all these factors encouraged the Romans to pay special attention to it, as it was classified by the United Nations Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization as one of the World Heritage Sites, and that was in 1997.
Afterwards, we will head to the city of Meknes. It was built by the Alawite Sultan Moulay Ismail at the end of the 17th century to be the capital of his kingdom. He surrounded the city with huge defensive walls and fortresses. The main entrance to the old medina is the great Bab Mansour gate, which opens onto the famous Lehdim Square. famous Lehdim Square. After a historical and cultural visit in Meknes, in the afternoon we will leave for Fez. Today’s trip ends when you settle into your accommodation.
Day 3: Fez - Visit the city with a local guide
The city of Fez is one of the most important cities in the history of Morocco. As it is known, the city is divided into 3 sections, Fez El-Bali, which is the old city, Fez El-Jedid, which was built in the 13th century, and the new city, which was built by the French during the period of French colonialism. Our special tour of Fez covers the most important sites of the city and delves into its history and culture.
The city is home to one of the oldest scientific institutions, the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque, founded by Fatima, daughter of Muhammad Al-Fihri, after the founding of the city for a period of 51 years. The mosque and the long-standing scientific university have been a center of intellectual, cultural and religious activity for nearly a thousand years. It is believed to be the oldest university in the world. You can also stroll through the narrow streets of the old medina and see how the merchants offer their products in the traditional markets, and the visit will also take you to different educational and cultural establishments. The Bou Inania school is the most famous school in Morocco, which was founded in 1350 by Sultan Abu Inan Al-Marini to be an educational institution for students.
Day 4: Fez - Ifran - Midalte - desert
On this day, we will leave Fez and head towards the Sahara Desert. Today’s trip is special because we will be able to drive and stop through cities, villages, forests, mountains and sand dunes. Just after leaving Fez, we will start driving through the Middle Atlas and the first town we will cross is Imouzzar Kandar. The main city of the Middle Atlas is Ifrane where we will stop to discover some facts about this different city.
Unlike any other city in Morocco, Ifrane is one of the most visited cities in the country especially in winter, when snow covers the roofs of its alpine-style houses. The place is also known for its green spaces and lush trees; we will stop at the famous Azrou cedar forest to see the Barbary monkeys coming out of the jungle. Afterwards, we will leave the Middle Atlas and start driving the High Atlas where we will stop in the town of Midelt for lunch and rest. The city is famous for the production of apples.
Amidst the flat red lands of the region, we will stop at a green oasis known as the Ziz Valley. It offers a breathtaking panoramic view of thousands of palm trees and local mud houses on the other side of the road. Moving on through the lands of Tafilalet, we will enter the Sahara Desert. More specifically in a hotel in Merzouga, you can relax on the edges of the Erg-Chebbi dunes and watch the sunset in the desert. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 5: Merzouga - Discover the Desert
Awakened for a tasty breakfast in the desert, today will be dedicated to explore the hidden secrets of the Sahara desert through an incredible adventure. Embarked in a 4×4 vehicle, we will begin the journey driving through the dunes to cross to the other side of Erg-Chebbi, where the sand dunes end and the rocky desert Hamada begins. In the same area, nomadic families settle in their traditional tents. Obviously, we will visit them in their tents and have a break with them to discover how they manage to survive in these places, together with their livestock.
Continuing through the Hamada, we will visit the old abandoned French village of M’Fis. It is a former territory of the French army used to control the place and exploit the different mines in the area. Not far from the village, we will climb a mountain to contemplate a magnificent view. Above the mountain, you can see; the distant mountains indicating the Algerian borders, have a clear view on the transmission of the dunes of Erg-Chebbi to the Hamada, see the old road of the Dakar Rally through the desert valley.
Day 6: Desert - Rissani - Toudra Gorges - Dades Valley
Early in the morning, we have to witness the sunrise of the desert especially when the golden fingers of sunlight illuminate the scene. Followed by shower and breakfast, we return to the hotel in Merzouga to prepare for today’s journey. Leaving the desert with great memories, we stop in Rissani. It is a historic city in southeastern Morocco, as it is the birthplace of the Alawite dynasty, the current rulers. The city is also famous for its huge traditional market which is the commercial center of all the nearby villages.
Afterwards, we will leave Rissani and head through Berber villages and flat lands. to reach the city of Tinghir. A few kilometers from the city, we will visit one of the most attractive sites in the country. The Todgha Gorges are a series of meanders and canyons of the limestone river, located in the eastern part of the High Atlas Mountains. The gigantic rock walls form an impressive sight with a stream flowing down the river. The place offers suitable opportunities for hiking, climbing and simply strolling along the paths together with the locals.
After lunch, we head to the Dades Valley, today’s destination. Before arriving in the valley, we will visit the rock formation known as “monkey fingers”. Crossing the zigzagging valley, we will settle in the amazing Dades Valley for the night.
Day 7: Dades valley - Ouarzazate - Kasbah ait ben Haddou Marrakech
On the seventh day of our Morocco trip itinerary 8 dyas, after breakfast in the Dades Valley, we leave this beautiful place and start today’s journey to Marrakech. On the way to Marrakech, we will visit many great attractions in this part of the country. Kelaat M’Gouna is the first town we drive through; the area is better known as the Valley of the Roses because of the Damascus rose that grows here.
The next town would be Skoura, which is famous for its palm grove and ancient kasbahs. Afterwards, we will arrive to reach what is known as the “Hollywood of Africa”, the city of Ouarzazate, where we will visit the Kasbah of Taourirt. This is an impressive fortification that is home to a lot of movies, including Gladiator. On the outskirts of the city, there are movie studios that attract many producers to film some of their cinematic works in the Ouarzazate area. The Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou would be the next stop before heading to Marrakech.
The historic Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, in southeastern Morocco, with its buildings erected in what looks like a fortified castle, has become a natural set for the filming of many international movies and series, of which perhaps the most famous is the famous “Game of Thrones” series, after it preserved its architectural originality on the heights overlooking the valleys.
